Happiness is the Little Things...

92. When a baby holds your hand!

Munsters.

Do you remember the Munsters?

It was one of Papa's favorite TV shows. Apparently NBC is planning on revamping it and Bryan Fuller--of Pushing Daisies--is writing the pilot! I'm excited to see what he comes up with--and let's be honest, Pushing Daisies should still be on TV! I hope they pull it off, with the slight obsession with Vampires and such that's going on right now I think that Fuller has a good chance of making a success of the Munsters!

Happiness is the Little Things...

196. Accents!

Pancakes.

Are you upset?

I think this would be the perfect way to let someone know that you are not happy! Except that it really just makes me laugh when I look at it!

Happiness is the Little Things...

34. Sunday naps!

Senior?

One thing I've enjoyed at ASU is that it consistently reminds that it's impossible to know what anyone is like--based solely on their appearance.  For example--in one of my classes there is this girl who seems very intense! First she's very tall--not that I have anything against tall people, but when you grace the world at all of 5'2 1/2"  there are a lot of tall people and they can be pretty intense.  Besides being very tall, she has quite a few tattoos and a lot of piercings--not just piercings but piercings that make me hurt when I look at her because I can't imagine that they didn't really hurt when she got them!  Despite that she's really funny!  I've come to really enjoy our pre-class Harry Potter discussions.  So not only is she an HP fan, she doesn't drink--at all.  She said once that she doesn't do any of that--drinking or drugs--she just doesn't want to do that to her body.

I love being reminded that people are unique, you can't judge them based on what you see--except, of course, when it comes to their shoes!

Sixlets.

There aren't words for how amazing this cake looks! Could you imagine how excited kids would be to blow out candles on this amazing cake!

Happiness is the Little Things...

106. Star gazing!

What do you want to do with your life?

Don't you just love it when someone asks you that? Yeah...me neither. But let's be honest...I'm majoring in English Literature, which is good for...exactly! I learned years ago that the best answer for this is long and technical sounding. For example six years ago when I thought I was going into communications I would tell people, I was majoring in communications with an emphasis in public relations and planned on working for Disney! See it's long, sounds impressive...especially when I told them my goal in life was marrying a Disney! Seriously how cool would it be to say, Hi I'm Malinda Disney!...but now I just tell people the truth, I have no freaking idea! Doesn't sound quite as fun. But here are some jobs that I have at one time or another dreamed of having!

...A speech writer for the President! I blame this on The West Wing! Seriously I wanted Toby's job!
...whatever it was that Josh Lyman did on The West Wing!
...an NCIS agent! You carry a gun and I'd make a really long list of rules that everyone I work with would have to follow!
...J.K. Rowling! Um...yeah, I'd like to be a genius! She created the coolest world since the introduction of Hobbits!
...a stylist! Yeah, I think Rachel Zoe has one of the coolest jobs ever! And amazing designers are always wanting her and her clients to wear the stuff...for FREAKING free! I mainly want to do this for the shoes...and the dresses...and the purses...oh I am such a material girl!
...an Artist/photographer! I think people who can create things are...brilliant! I wish I could just sit down and paint something awesome...but I can't even take an art class because I can't even comprehend getting graded based on if they simply like it, or it looks good! I can't even turn in a test unless there is an answer for every question, let alone basing my entire grade on art! But I sure love to look at it!
...the owner of a Chocolate Store in a little village in France! Who saw the movie Chocolat and didn't want to open their own chocolatry, wear red heels and high waisted skirts and kiss hot Irish pirate/gypsy's that look like Johnny Depp! Not to mention that your best friend might be Dame Judi Dench!
...a wedding planner! Hello J-Lo and David Tutera...my freaking hero! How fun would it be to create something as amazing and a Tutera wedding! Dealing with bridezillas not so much fun, but seeing the end product and being able to say...Holy crap I'm a freaking genius at the end of every wedding...priceless!
...an archaeologist! Jurassic Park and Laura Croft: Tomb Raider and her hot ex-boyfriend who turns out is James Bond!
...work at Sea World! The people who train the dolphins not the killer whales. Call me old fashion, but there is a biological reason they put killer in front of the word whale!
...a pychic detective! You solve crime with your best friend, have awesome hair, and you eat all the time!

...growing up I just always thought I'd be the person who'd just know what she was going to do with her life. There isn't really any thing scarier than knowing you might graduate in a couple weeks and have absolutely no plan for the future--other than needing to move out of your parents house!  Honestly, this scenario never crossed my mind when asked the question--What do you want to do with your life!?

What do you want to do with your life?!

25 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

38. Hot bubble baths!

Once Upon a Time.

I will admit that I have not only been watching this show--but enjoying it! Yes, it can be a little...OMG am I really watching this...but I'm a sucker for a fairy tale!

Has anyone else noticed Emma's boots?  I think I want a pair--even though I'm not really a boot wearing girl--I think I can pull them off!  But the boots I found that look like them are $400--a little much for an unemployed girl!

Anyone know of someone who'd be willing to donate a pair of really cute boots to a girl in need? Or someone who would like to hire a talented English Lit major?

Happiness is the Little Things...

109. When someone quotes you!

Toppers.

"I can't Have No Affair Because It's Wrong And I Don't Want Earl To Kill Me Pie...vanilla custard with banana. Hold the banana."--Jenna, Waitress

How perfect is this?! I think all pies might need a pie topper from now on--starting next Thanksgiving!!

23 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things.

302. Listening to Christmas music on the radio!

Twinkie.

Twinkie Parties!  I love this idea, I think I need to start a new tradition--though I'm not a huge Twinkie fan--still I love this idea!  A way to celebrate any accomplishments, everyone needs to be acknowledged--sometimes the little accomplishments need just as much attention as the larger ones.

22 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

206. First Kisses!

Teepee.

"Shouldn't we give thanks first?"
"Thanks for what?"
"Well, that we're not Native Americans who got their land stolen in exchange for smallpox infested blankets."--Luke & Jess, Gilmore Girls

Ice cream cones, pretzels, frosting and fabric equals one cute Thanksgiving place holder!

Are you putting a kids table together this year?

21 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

198. Late night conversations!

Purple.

"Where's the golden turkey?"--Kristina Braverman, Parenthood

I'm really loving the purple and gold Thanksgiving theme going on here--and I'm pretty certain it's not because they Queen Creek High School's colors!  This table setting is elegant and simple--the perfect table to be celebrate being thankful!

Happiness is the Little Things...

209. Taking your heels off at the end of the day!

Little Big Town.

For Megs birthday this year I took her to see Little Big Town at the QCPAC.

It was pretty fun--don't you wish you had hair like that!

Meg is still singing LBT songs--but she did that before the concert too!

17 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

173. Paying off your credit cards!

Mini.

Mini Chicken Pot Pies!

They're cute and mini--sounds like a party to me!

16 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

180. Fresh flowers!

Leaf.

Some people may be aware of my love for hats--well this is just another example!  How fun would these be to wear during Thanksgiving dinner!?!

Happiness is the Little Things...

272. Holding hands!

To Infinity and Beyond.

For PH's 2nd birthday we had a Buzz Lightyear slip and slide party! And I'll be honest this invitation was a pain to make--mainly because I had no idea what I was doing!

Meg picked up all these balloons the morning of the party and I'm still not sure how she got 37 balloons out of the store by herself--let alone in the Corolla!

It was so fun to put together!  I found a Toy Story shower curtain on sale at Target, and we used that as the back drop--it's also the boys Christmas present from Auntie, but don't tell them that!

Mother made green alien cupcakes and cookies.  We silhouetted the Porter sign...

... and the rocket.

The dollar store had square Toy Story foam puzzles back in the spring that I picked up in anticipation of this party!

We set the kids up outside so that they could eat and slip and slide all they wanted.  My Aunt ML let us borrow her snow cone machine--which was the perfect thing for this summer party!

You cannot have a Buzz Lightyear party with out Pizza Planet!  I made the rocket tray for less than $10!

Our newest Space Rangers Baby W and Baby J!

And of course the Birthday Boy!

Best party EVER!!

15 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

194.  Starting a favorite series...again!

Pumpkin.

I'm not a big fan of pancakes--but pumpkin pancakes are a different story! Doesn't this look like the perfect Thanksgiving breakfast--well, maybe the day before Thanksgiving. You don't want to go to a Thanksgiving lunch already full!

14 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

86.  The smell of breakfast in the morning!

Weddings!

"When two people love each other, they come together--WHAM--like two taxis on Broadway!"--Stella, Rear Window

O & J finally did it! They were married in the Mesa, AZ Temple on 11-11-11!

Valentino Spring 2012.

It's just so pretty!

09 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

237.  When a person's laugh is funnier than the joke they told!

Senior?

If you ever enroll in a class called Victorian Backgrounds and on the first day of said class it changes to Darwin and Victorian Literature--DROP IT immediately and try to get into another class.  If you don't, you might be stuck in a class where you don't understand anything because it all sounds like those science classes you've avoided since high school--but WORSE!  There is nothing science classes to make this English major feel like an idiot!  Plus, you might not be lucky enough to have Ellen Page's anorexic twin in your class. Every time she comments the only thing that goes through my head is--hahaha Juno! hahaha tic-tacs! But in all seriousness--Darwin kills any kind of enjoyment one might have in this class.

08 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

298. A new toothbrush!

Spooks.

I threw together a little Halloween party a couple days before Halloween, because I wasn't sure if Mel and the boys would make it out on Halloween!

We ate Mummy dogs and deviled eyes!

A party isn't complete without some streamers and balloons!

I love Halloween!

07 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

162. When you finally remember the name of the song that has been stuck in your head!

Pie.

Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake.

Pumpkin and cheesecake in the same dessert--I don't think it can get much better!

06 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

107.  Using a clean warm towel!

Mad Hatter.

I just bought this amazing hat from Alley Cats Vintage on Etsy and I'm in love with it!  I'm adamant about wearing it to Janole's wedding on Friday, but it doesn't really go with my dress.  But the hat is simply amazing!

Do I start looking for another dress or should I just wear the hat even though it doesn't really go with the dress?

05 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

213.  Birthday Bras!

Ni Hau Kai Lan....

Or an excuse to eat Orange Chicken!

The real reason we had this party is because I found these in their closets--and let's be honest, I just couldn't  let the opportunity pass!

04 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

133.  When people spell your name right!

...it's Malinda with an 'A'

Peanut Butter.

A layer of peanut butter! So brilliant, why didn't I think about it before!

03 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

290.  Wearing new clothes for the first time!

Senior?

I've gone through a lot of professors since high school. I've liked some, loathed others, and often wondered why my professors never looked like Indiana Jones.  That being said I do have a professor this semester that reminds me of a "movie star"--just not a young Harrison Ford.  ASU's Professor Newhauser is--I swear--Paul Giamatti's shorter Jewish brother with a dash of Dustin Hoffman thrown in just to slightly intimidate his students.

As a general rule, I try to avoid writing anything about my professors anywhere that could be accessed during the semester--but what the heck, I might be done in December anyways.

This is the second class I'm taking from Newhauser--and they've been pretty intense.  The first class was Aurthurian Literature and my current class is Chaucer.  It's been a lot of reading, but they are 400 level English classes so it's expected.  What I like about the class is that there are no surprises--and NO group work!  He lectures, but he's not boring.  He's also very old school, which means no computers in the classroom--he doesn't think you can type and listen at the same time.  If you do the reading--and go to class--you're good!  If you're looking to take an upper level English class I highly recommend ASU's Giamatti-Hoffman hybrid Professor Richard Newhauser.

02 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

7.  Christmas lights!

Shower.

J had her bridal shower last weekend. We stuck to the rustic browns and yellows--and when I say we, I mean my mother because I've been writing stupid papers for what seems like forever!

We had bread bowls and delicious soups--personal faves would have to be the tomato and the potato soups--Caramel apples, artichoke dip, apple cider, cookies...lots of food!

I could have sworn I took more pictures...but these were all I could find!

It was a really fun party, and she got a lot of nice things--though my gift was the best, and I don't even have a picture of it!  If I find more pictures I will most definitely share them with you!

01 November 2011

Happiness is the Little Things...

56.  Breakfast for dinner!

Hot.

I love this time of year because you don't need an excuse to add pumpkin to everything! I'm really excited to try this Pumpkin Pie White Hot Chocolate!  I'm just waiting for a nice day that isn't in the 80s-90s--but let's be honest, it looks it might be a while before I can enjoy this!
