The stockings were hung by the chimney with care

Who wouldn't want to pull this out of their stocking on Christmas morning? I know I would!

09 December 2013

It has been very cold here lately, and since there is no man in my life to warm me up, I'll have to rely on the next best thing--Chocolate!

This Coconut Cream Hot Chocolate sounds like it will be just the right thing to warm me up. I'd rather it be a man...but this will still make me smile!

07 December 2013

It's that time of year again!

Time to pull out your Christmas decorations and start bring Christmas cheer to family, friends...and myself!

My Christmas shopping is done but wouldn't these Millennium Falcon chocolates be the perfect stocking stuffers!

02 December 2013

Arthur Christmas is my new favorite Christmas movie! It's clever, funny, voiced by James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, etc. Santa's sleigh has been retired and Christmas is now a high tech well oiled air craft that comes fully loaded with cloaking capabilities. Santa's oldest son Steve is ready to inherit the Santaship when a single present is left undelivered. Arthur, Santa's youngest son, sets out on an adventure with Grand-Santa and his decommissioned to make sure that every child receives a Christmas gift.

It is a seriously clever highly entertaining movie. One you and your little ones will both enjoy!

I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane.

Well I'm off--haha, I wish!

But for all of you who are traveling this weekend here are helpful tips to remember!

19 November 2013

Happy 1st Birthday KR!

It has been such a fun year having a little girl to dress up! And in a few short months she'll have a little sister and we'll have twice the fun!

17 November 2013

Good freaking H! I've been out of high school for ten years!

My ten year reunion was last week and I almost didn't go, but I'm glad I did. It was fun to catch up with everyone who came.

There were less then a hundred of us to graduate from Queen Creek High School in 2003--back when Queen Creek mainly consisted of Circle K.

Here's hoping we look this good in ten more years!

10 November 2013

One of my students has gone on and on and on about how his parents have this food truck and they sell waffles and they're delicious. They came to school last week and gave all the teachers a waffle--a very Christ like act.

Oh my goodness! They are delicious!
Every bite was a like eating a little piece of heaven...oh just thinking about it...! Check out their website and keep an eye out for their pink truck--you will not be disappointed!

As an English Literature major I fully appreciate the ability to BS your way through...almost everything.

Oh yes! English Lit majors have majored in...well we've proven we can BS our way through a 20 page paper on crazy topics that only become interesting after hours of research--or let's be honest a weeks worth of research and one very long night!

After passing out a narrative essay assignment to 100+ seventh graders in the last few days...I am very grateful for the BSing talent I do possess. Now if only my seventh graders would learn to coherently BS their way through a paper!

True dat!

Miss Austen by Amber Barkley

I may or may not have just ordered this sweet print for myself! Oh who am I kidding, I did just buy it!

04 November 2013

I've watched a lot of football this year but this is by far the coolest things I've seen this year!

21 October 2013

I have been watching what feels like a lot of football lately.

I enjoy watching football--I still don't really understand it. But I was able to get a lot of papers graded while Pop and O watched it this weekend--and that is a major plus!

17 October 2013

As Halloween draws ever near I thought it would be appropriate to high light one of my favorite Buffy the Vampire episodes of all time--Hush.

First, it features one of the creepiest baddies Whedon has put on our tv screens, the gentlemen. "You're gonna die a-screamin' but you can't be heard." The best scene of the episode has to be Giles debriefing with the overhead projector. It's a fun episode but you can't help but wondering what this would be like now with everyone having cell phones, twitter and instagram. Despite the fact that these modern conveniences date the episode it's still a creeptastic classic.

  • Whedonism: "orgasm friend".
  • The actors that played the Gentlemen were all professional mimes. Whedon was so impressed that his mime mocking decreased by 40% after filming this episode.
  • Through silence Whedon shows us the importance of communication vs language. You see how fluid the Gentlemen communicate to each other and how clumsy and difficult it is for the Scoobies to communicate with language.

I think I need to invest in a cheese knife.

Oh my! I hope you enjoyed that because I did. In all honesty it is surprising how much cheese knowledge seems to increase your intellect!

Almost 30.

Holy moly how the heck did that happen?

Today marks a momentous moment in my life--I am almost 30. That's right in a mere 365 days I will forever leave my 20s behind me. To mark this once in a life time event I've decided that I must do something...something big--well slightly big yet manageable because to be honest my main goal is to simply survive my first year of teaching!

That being said I've decided to embark on an adventure, a visual adventure, one in which I will take a photo everyday. I will document my last year of not being "old" in a unique and memorable way--hopefully this turns out cool and not a bunch of pictures of my bedroom at 11:57 pm!

So let the Almost 30 adventure begin!

...any thoughts on what I should eat, or see, or read, or do before I'm 30?

24 July 2013

Half Blood Prince.

First, let me just say how proud I am to be an American and that we are an independent nation with no monarchy. That being said I am completely enamored by the new wee royal.

I love that they both wore blue--and they were so happy!

Plus look at him! Oh my goodness he's cute!!

19 July 2013

Favorite Fridays.

Graham Crackers...

I haven't had graham crackers in forever but lately these have become my favorite late night snack!

American Leadership Academy

Have I mentioned that I'm a teacher? Well I am!! I'll be teaching 7th grade English at ALA. I am very excited and a wee bit nervous about school starting but after a week of training meetings I simply wish that the first day of school was here.

15 July 2013

Wet Shirt.

A 12 foot Mr. Darcy? Oh heck yes!

This masterful sculpture has been temporarily placed in London's Serpentine lake before it embarks on a tour of England. It will make its home at Lyme Park where the now famous wet shirt scene was filmed.

I find it quite hilarious that one of the most famous Pride and Prejudice scenes is one that Austen did not pen!

12 July 2013

Favorite Friday.

Detective Sargent James Hathaway.

If you have not seen Inspector Lewis then I suggest you watch it. It's a lovely British mystery series that you can watch on Netflix if you haven't seen it on Masterpiece. I love it and Laurence Fox is brilliant as DS Hathaway!

Holy moly this is delicious--so good that I will not admit how many I've had this last week! Next time you head to the store make sure you pick up some coconut syrup, limes, half & half and of course some Diet Coke!

A Book Jar

I first read about a book jar on Chels & a Book and I love the idea! In fact, today I will be making my own book jar! A book jar is pretty self explanatory--it is a jar full of book titles that you want to read! Sometimes I struggle trying to decide what I should read next, but this way it will be chance that decides for me!

10 July 2013

Watch Where You Step!

Today is
Don't Step On A Bee Day
So watch out for those stingers today! In honor of bees and the honey they make I'm going to eat some Honeycomb...cereal!

What will you do to celebrate this random holiday?

05 July 2013

Favorite Friday.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love this show? Yes, it's reality TV; Yes, it's probably scripted but I don't care! I love me some Robertson family TV and today I'm prepping for Meg's Duck Dynasty birthday party!!

I am loving me some watermelon lately. It's the perfect summertime snack. It's been ridiculously hot lately and this sweet red deliciousness has been such a treat when it's served nice and cold!

The Circus

We went to the Circus this week and it was AMAZING! I loved it...maybe more than the kids did!!

02 July 2013

I was on Pinterest, pinteresting when I saw this super cute cereal bar! Does this not make you want to have a breakfast/brunch party...better yet a slumber party so you have an excuse to have this cute cereal bar?!! My favorite part is the spoon board behind the cereal. I then clicked through and realized that it was a Hostess with the Mostess party--which means that the rest of the party is absolutely amazing...and slightly over the top. I would love to throw a brunch that cool but I'm content with a little cereal bar!

Who wants to come to brunch?

28 June 2013

Favorite Fridays.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

Neil Gaiman's latest book and it is absolutely beautiful. I went to his book signing in Phoenix--but more on that later--and was able to finish the book while I waited for my turn to get in line.

This Merona Navy Dress

I bought this dress the other day and I love it! The navy sea horse print is so fun, it's the perfect summer dress...with a sweater!

The Spock Challenge!

This is so clever! I cannot stop watching it!

24 June 2013

Best Story Ever.

I honestly don't know what my Best Story Ever would be, but I can guarantee you that it probably wouldn't involve getting hit in the head with a stick.

But then again I'm not Jackie Chan!

13 June 2013

Bringing Sexy Back.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers is doing exactly that in NBC's new series Dracula

It won't premier until the fall but I mean honestly...who isn't going to be watching. I read the book a couple of years ago and the watched the Bela Lugosi 1931 Dracula and loved it! I cannot wait to see a sexy vampire back on television.

09 June 2013

Gilbert Temple.

It's almost done!!

The Gilbert Temple will be the fifth temple in Arizona--isn't it beautiful!

There is no set date for the completion but it should be late 2013 or early 2014. When it's complete there will be an open house for a month before it is dedicated. If you've ever wondered what a LDS temple is like then I would highly suggest that you stop by some time in that month and tour the Temple. You will not regret it, they are beautiful!

27 May 2013

Memorial Day.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."-George S. Patton

"I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me."-Lee Greenwood

I am extremely grateful for those who are serving today, those who served yesterday and for those who will serve tomorrow. Today I am especially grateful to those who gave their all and were never able to return home to their families. Thank you for giving me the gift of freedom.

Thank you.

Human Condition.

All the positive and negative experiences of being human.

Last week Phoenix Police Officer Daryl Raetz was killed in the line of duty.

Three days later his daughter Tatum graduated from Kindergarten.

When she arrived at school she learned that even though her daddy would not be there to see her graduate her Phoenix Police Department family was.

They will never be able to replace her daddy, bet Phoenix PD made sure that five year old Tatum knew that they will always be watching over her.

20 May 2013

Wouldn't it be loverly.

Today is Eliza Doolittle Day!

No it is not a holiday I made up--but one I would totally have voted for! I love the musical My Fair Lady! I loved Audrey Hepburn in it. I was shocked to find out that it's not her singing in the movie--even though she did take singing lessons and I believe, if I remember from my Musicals Theory Class, she did not know she was going to be dubbed. And of course I love the version of the songs sung by Julie Andrews.

So pick up some flowers and your favorite chocolates, put on your biggest Ascot appropriate hat

or your tiara and enjoy a little Doolittle!

18 May 2013

Human Condition.

All of the positive and negative experiences of being human!

Alyssa had a dream come true when she met Snow White at Disneyland; little did she know that meeting the Disney Princess was only the beginning of her wishes coming true. Snow White and Alyssa skipped to the wishing well, she closed her eyes and said "I wish with all my heart that my daddy would come home."

She opened her eyes...and her daddy had come home!

All it took was faith and trust and a little bit of...well...Disney!

16 May 2013

Have you seen Hannibal? It's...beautiful! Disturbing but equally beautiful.

It is brought to us by Bryan Fuller--yes the Bryan Fuller of Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me--which makes me not only want to love it but fear that it will soon be gone. It stars Hugh Dancy as Will--who is a reason in an of himself to watch the show--and Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. I've never had a desire to watch or read anything about Hannibal Lecter but I'm hooked.

08 May 2013

Did you hear Neil Gaiman is coming to Arizona on his last US book tour?
{I've already bought my ticket!}

I love Neil Gaiman and his writing but I'm not really acquainted with his wife, Amanda Palmer. She is very intense; I go back and forth on my feelings about her--but then again she did marry Neil Gaiman and you have to envy that. But then I watched her TEDtalk "The Art of Asking" and I loved it.

When did asking gain such a bad rap? While subbing this last week one of the classes started to talk about this whole asking thing. One example we talked about was when your in the checkout line and you only have 1-2 items is it ok to ask the person in front of you with a cart full of stuff if you could go in front of them? Would you be offended if they asked you if they could go in front of you?

Then at church a girl was talking about Esther. And of course I was only half listening because I know the story of Esther. Then she said something that earned my full attention. Esther, one of the great Biblical heroines, asked her people for help. Asking them to pray and fast for her before she went before the king.

There is no harm in asking?

06 May 2013

It's May.

Do you ever wake up and think holy crap it's May! I had one of those moments today. How have four months already come and gone this year?!

05 May 2013

We Are Daughters of Our Heavenly Father.

As daughters of God we are each unique and different in our circumstances and experiences. And yet our part matters-because we matter!

This has become one of my favorite all time conference talks!

02 May 2013

Happiness is the Little Things.

282. Watching someone you love sleep!

01 May 2013

It's a golden pinata...A GOLDEN PINATA!! I'm pretty sure this is something I need in my life. Yes, it would be awesome at a Cinco de Mayo party...but I think it is simply awe inspiring and...holy crap it's a gold pinata!!

30 April 2013

Happiness is the Little Things.

71. Choosing glove and scarf combos.

29 April 2013

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner, do you have any party plans? I don't need an excuse to eat Mexican food but I always enjoy having one. You know a holiday is a good one when simply hearing its name brings visions of food and...more food. Mmmm...horchata, carne asada, tortillas, jamica, elote...oh yeah, I love Cinco de Mayo.

08 April 2013

Oh Snap.

Megs tore her ACL last month; she has surgery tomorrow to finally fix the thing. It's been quite the month for all of us! I'm just glad that it wasn't anything like Kevin Ware.

I don't do well with injuries in general but bones protruding from the skin is definitely something I cannot do.

It could always be worse! Good Luck Megs!

07 April 2013

General Conference.

"If we teach by the Spirit and you listen by the Spirit, some one of us will touch on your circumstance, sending a personal prophetic epistle just to you."-Elder Holland

Join me today in watching General Conference and listening to messages of Christ.

05 April 2013

Conference Weekend.

Come listen to a prophet's voice!

I love these pancake ties, I think the boys would love them! They can decorate their own tie before we watch Conference! It would be fun to see if anyone wears a tie that looked like your pancake! On a more serious note, I love watching Conference! It really is quite the blessing to be able to listen to a prophet of God! So grab your notebook, maybe a treat of two and enjoy the listening and learning from a living prophet!!

04 April 2013

03 April 2013

Jurassic Park.

"We've made living biological attractions so astounding that they'll capture the imagination of the entire planet."-John Hammond

I'm not a big 3D fan. In reality I really hope it has almost run its course like it did in the 50s. But this, I would seriously consider watching Jurassic Park in 3D. I love Jurassic Park; it is a classic film--plus it is Spielberg and dinosaurs. It's suppose to be released April 5th. Maybe I'll read the actual book before seeing it--I've heard it's better than the movie.

02 April 2013

Happiness is the little things.

22. Peeing after having to hold it a long time!

01 April 2013

April Fools Day.

"April Fools!"
A simple phrase that can bring both joy and utter terror depending on the situation. I've never been a big fan of April Fools Day--especially the Facebook engagements and such, they are not that funny. We can blame Chaucer's Canterbury Tales for the first association between April 1 and foolishness--at least according to Wikipedia we can! Remember to be kind; the people you fool today will have to be lived with tomorrow!
