The Pope.

Pope Benedict XVI is the first pontiff in 600 years to resign from the papacy; he will step down tomorrow from his duties as the 265th pope.

I was quite surprised to find out that the pontiff could retire, though I have to admit that it must have been a very hard and humbling decision to make. To be able to recognize that ones health was keeping him from...fulfilling all his duties to the best of his capacity. I hope you will join me in praying for Pope Benedict as well as his successor during this time of transition in the Catholic church. In the next few weeks they will gather together to elect a new pope and we will wait for the white smoke to name the next pontiff.

Studio Ghibli has done it again. The Secret World of Arrietty based on Mary Norton's The Borrowers has been on my need to watch list since it came out and it did not disappoint. The amazing Hayao Miyazaki co-wrote the screenplay and even though he wasn't animating the film himself you could see his influence in the beautifully drawn world of the Borrowers and in the little details of their lives. Arrietty is a beautiful film that shows proves that traditionally animated movies have not been out dated by CGI. That being said I would really like to watch the original Japanese version--with subtitles of course--to make sure that I didn't miss anything in the Disney transition.

Best Valentines Day ever...well since last years!

We had a Valentines scavenger hunt and it was a blast.
{Note: running in and out of the house after two over enthusiastic little boys can be a little intense, next year I'll do all the inside clues then all the outside ones.}

They had so much fun running around finding treats for their Valentines party.

Next year I will make sure that I take a good pre-hunt picture because once they got started they were not interested in taking a picture.

The one that had no problem taking a Valentines Day picture was W. Though he kept showing me his "Hulk" muscles which led to smearing kisses--but he was happy to be my Valentine!

Disney is not wasting any time on this Star Wars thing. First, they got J.J. Abrams to direct Star Wars VII. Now, they've announced that they are going to make a number of spin-off movies in that galaxy oh so far, far away. One, will be a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett and another will be the origin story of my favorite scruffy looking Han Solo. Now, that I've got you all excited I should say that this announcement was made with the caviot that the source has not been confirmed. Still I can see this happening and they would be pretty fun!

Now, who should play the young Han Solo? My first thought is Nathan Fillion because he'd be perfect...except there's no way that he could play a young Han Solo. To bad this wasn't happening around Firefly time. I'm not sure who I would want to play him. Joseph Gordon Levitt...ugh? Chris Pine...he has that whole playing Jim Kirk in Star Trek. Garrett Hedlund...maybe. Josh Holloway...maybe he might be to old. Ryan Gosling...he actually might be too good looking. Joel Edgerton...he was briefly Uncle Owen in the prequels but he might be able to do it. Taylor Kitsch...I like this, he was Gambit before he was John Carter and the failure of Carter was not his fault.

Who would you cast to play a young Han Solo?

I'll be honest, I've never been a big fan of Valentines Day.

Now it might have something to do with the fact that I've never actually had a so called Valentines on Valentines Day.

I just don't understand why you need to have a day set apart to let people know you love them. Shouldn't that be something that you do all the time. If you aren't letting your "Valentine" know that you love them more then once a year then you probably have to find a new Valentine every year!

But don't think that I'm one of those people who wears black on Valentines day. I don't hate the holiday I'm just not its biggest fan.

That being said, I don't think it takes a lot to make it a special one.

What do you to make Valentines Day a special day?

Star Wars.

Now I'm sure most--well a couple at least--of you have heard that J.J. Abrams is going to be directing Star Wars VII. First, I am glad that they are going to be making new Star Wars movies. I believe that every generation--young girl--should have the opportunity to fall in love with the story--a Luke or Han. Second, I really like Abrams. Even with all of that being written I'm still not sure how I feel about it...then I watched this trailer.

It really got me excited. Let's be honest, in the end I will watch it no matter what. I'll be prejudiced and probably like on principle--like Episodes 1 and 2. Speaking of the prequels I recently read a review on TOR about watching them on mute. Cue up the soundtrack and let John Williams show you the real art of the movie. Star Wars is a great movie and a timeless story; that might just be my biased opinion but still it'll be interesting to see what Disney and Abrams do.

Did you know that there is an official Read in the Bathtub Day?

I certainly didn't though I am a very big supporter of reading in the tub. There's even a Facebook page! I hope you will all join me--not in the same tub, that could get very crowded--in celebrating this day, Saturday February 9th, by grabbing a good book and enjoying it in the bathtub!

I'll be enjoying Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings

What will you be reading in the bath?

Human Condition.

All positive and negative experiences of being human.

With all the crap that goes on in the world it's nice to be reminded that it's still cool to be human. Back in October Spider-Man and Captain America surprised some rather deserving kids at the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Thank God for Superheroes!

We have the blessing of having the testimonies of ancient prophets, but we have the right to know too!

"...I may believe that Enoch walked with God. I may believe that Abraham communed with God and conversed with angles. I may believe that Isaac obtained a renewal of the covenant made to Abraham by the direct voice of the Lord. I may believe that Jacob conversed with holy angles and heard the word of his Maker, that he wrestled with the angles until he prevailed and obtained a blessing. I may believe that Elijah was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire with fiery horses. I may believe that the saints saw the Lord and conversed with him face to face after his resurrection. I may believe that the Hebrew church came to Mount Zion and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem and to an innumerable company of angels. I may believe that they looked into eternity and saw the Judge of all, and Jesus, the Mediator of the new covenant.

"But will all this purchase an assurance for me, or waft me to the regions of eternal day with my garments spotless, pure, and white? Or, must I not rather obtain for myself, by my own faith and diligence in keeping the commandments of the Lord, and assurance of salvation for myself? And have I not an equal privilege with the ancient saints? And will not the Lord hear my prayers and listen to my cries as soon as he ever did to theirs if I come to him in the manner they did?"--Joseph Smith, Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith

It is my privilege to pray, to ask God and to receive an answer!

I've always found Groundhog's Day to be a slightly...stupid holiday. It might have something do with the fact that Arizona's winter doesn't last very long anyways. But these cupcakes are super cute and any little or not so little person would love to celebrate with them!
